You can check the status of your license and request a driver history abstract, which summarizes the reason for your suspension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/mvc\/license\/driverhist.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">request your driver abstract online<\/a> or go to an MVC location near you to inquire about your license suspension. Whether you check the status of your suspended license online, in person, or by phone, be sure to ask about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"\/car-insurance\/\">reason for the suspension<\/a> (e.g. DUI, driving without insurance, unpaid child support, exceeding the number of violation points permitted by NJ\u2019s point system)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The duration of the suspension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any steps you need to take to reinstate your license (e.g. paying outstanding fines or taking a defensive driving course)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"get-a-NJ-driver\u2019s-license-reinstated\">How to get a NJ driver\u2019s license reinstated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your driving privileges have been suspended by the state of New Jersey, you need two things to get them back: time and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a $100 reinstatement fee for any suspended license in New Jersey\u2014but just paying the restoration fee might not be enough to get your license back. You\u2019ll also need to serve the full court-ordered suspension period, which varies based on the type of offense that led to the suspension in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, a first-offense DWI with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .10% or more comes with a mandatory suspension for a minimum of three months, along with vehicle impoundment, at least 30 days of jail time, and fines from $300 to $500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you\u2019re convicted of a second offense, your license could be suspended for one year to two years. Whatever the period of suspension attached to your license, you\u2019ll need to wait until the full term is up before you can pay for a reinstatement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the reason for the suspension, you might also need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide proof of payment for any NJMVC surcharges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete an Intoxicated Driving Resource Center (IDRC) program or another driver improvement program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete mandatory community service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve met all the requirements to have your driver\u2019s license suspension lifted, you\u2019ll need to send the license restoration fee to the NJMVC. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/mymvc.state.nj.us\/restoration-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pay the fee online<\/a> or send a check or money order (payable to NJMVC) to the following address:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>P.O.
